PEEK-CF30 Composite material of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) resin and 30% carbon fiber

PEEK-CF30 is a material made of a polyetheretherketone (PEEK) matrix and 30% (by weight) chopped carbon fibers. This material combines the excellent properties of the PEEK matrix with the high strength and high modulus characteristics of carbon fibers, thereby showing a more outstanding overall performance. The following is a detailed analysis of the plastic material PEEK-CF30:

1. Material properties

Mechanical properties:
PEEK-CF30 has extremely high mechanical strength, with an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of up to 138 MPa, which is 35% stronger than pure PEEK and some aluminum alloys (such as Al 6063).
Its tensile modulus is also very high, up to 14 GPa, which makes PEEK-CF30 perform well when subjected to stress, but at the same time, because its tensile elongation is ten times lower than that of PEEK, it is not easy to deform when subjected to stress.
The compressive strength of PEEK-CF30 is about 229 MPa, showing excellent resistance to compressive loads.
Thermal properties:
The addition of carbon fiber significantly improves the thermal stability of PEEK, with a heat deformation temperature (HDT) of up to 280°C for PEEK-CF30, while the HDT of pure PEEK is about 150°C.
PEEK-CF30 has higher thermal conductivity than unreinforced PEEK, and has higher stability at high and low temperatures due to its lower coefficient of linear thermal expansion (CLTE).
Wear and chemical resistance:
PEEK-CF30 exhibits excellent wear resistance under various conditions, and its chemical corrosion resistance is also very good, and it can resist the erosion of most chemical environments.
Electrical properties:
Due to the conductivity of carbon fiber, the electrical properties of PEEK-CF30 are improved, but its volume resistivity remains at a low level, making it potential in certain electrical applications.
Other properties:
PEEK-CF30 is inherently flame retardant (UL94 V0 FST), almost does not burn, and does not produce toxic fumes when burning.
Its self-lubricating properties and the high thermal conductivity of the particles give PEEK-CF30 a low dry friction coefficient.
Carbon fiber is not susceptible to UV degradation, so PEEK-CF30 is quite resistant to UV radiation.

2. Application Fields

PEEK-CF30 is widely used in many fields due to its excellent performance, including but not limited to:

Aerospace: used to manufacture aircraft parts, rocket engines and other parts in high temperature and high pressure environments.

Automotive industry: used to manufacture key components such as engine internal components and brake systems to improve their performance and service life.

Oil and gas: used to manufacture valves, pipeline systems, etc. that can remain stable at high temperatures.

Electronic industry: due to its excellent electrical properties and high temperature resistance, it can be used to manufacture insulation materials for high-performance wires and cables.

Medical field: PEEK-CF30’s biocompatibility and chemical resistance make it useful in the manufacture of various medical devices that require high-temperature steam sterilization.

3. Summary

PEEK-CF30 is a high-performance composite material that achieves significant improvements in mechanical strength, thermal stability, wear resistance and chemical resistance by combining carbon fiber with a PEEK matrix. This material has broad application prospects in many fields and has become one of the indispensable materials in many high-end applications.
