Unfilled PEEK (polyetheretherketone) is a common form of PEEK plastic and the most common grade. Unlike other grades, unfilled PEEK is very pure and is not reinforced with other ingredients. It is known for its excellent heat resistance, mechanical properties, chemical stability and self-lubricity, and is widely used in many fields.
● High temperature performance: PEEK was invented for use in high temperature environments, so it can maintain stable performance at temperatures exceeding 260°C (or 500°F). (The actual mechanical properties, strength and modulus drop significantly after the glass transition temperature)
● Wear and chemical resistance: PEEK has excellent resistance to most organic solvents, acids, alkalis and other chemicals (except concentrated sulfuric acid and hydrofluoric acid, it is resistant to almost any chemical), ensuring its long-term stability in complex environments.
● Excellent strength and toughness: Unfilled PEEK has the highest elongation, toughness (note the difference from strength) and fatigue resistance among all PEEK grades.
● Biocompatibility: Unfilled PEEK complies with FDA regulations and is approved for repeated food contact and in vitro and in vivo medical applications such as artificial joints, dental implants, etc.
● Radiolucency: PEEK is purely radiolucent (not visible under MRI, CT or X-ray scanners) and can even resist gamma rays.
● Low smoke and toxic gas emissions: PEEK has low smoke and toxic gas emissions and is not easy to ignite.
● Highest steam resistance: It has the highest steam resistance of all engineering plastics.
● Sliding parts: Such as high-precision bearings, guide sliders, etc., can significantly reduce noise, reduce wear and extend service life in high-speed operation or frequent friction environments.
● Seals and gaskets: In the chemical, oil, natural gas and other industries, PEEK is used to make various seals, gaskets, valves, gears, bearings, piston rings, etc. due to its excellent chemical corrosion resistance and wear resistance.
● Transmission components: such as precision gears, drive pulleys, etc., which can maintain good dimensional stability and mechanical properties when rotating at high speed or transmitting large torque.
● Cable sheath and insulation materials: PEEK is widely used in the manufacture of cable sheaths, connectors, insulation sheets and other components due to its good insulation performance and high temperature resistance.
